MAKERSPACE

One of the most rewarding parts of my job as a LITT, was the opportunity to create a Makerspace for students and staff at our school. I was given a library workroom full of outdated materials and permission to purge. I dug in thinking that I was going to throw tons of things away to make room for our Makerspace. What I discovered was that many of the materials in the room could be repurposed as Makerspace materials. So, I emptied shelves, made piles, and went shopping at the Dollar Tree for bright containers of various sizes, shapes, and purposes. Together with the help of our 5th grade student technology leaders, we created a space to learn, question, try, discover, and innovate with high tech items as well as the lowest tech items too. We opened students minds and created a very special student-centered magical place in our school! I'm thankful for this opportunity!
I would love to help you create your own Makerspace! |
